Jasper Johns, Technics And Creativity: Gemini G.E.L.-Target, Alternate Projects

Description

This publication was produced in conjunction with Techics and Creativity: Gemini G.E.L., an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art of selected prints and multiples by such leading artists as Josef Albers, Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, and Frank Stella.  The Johns multiple “invites you to collaborate with Jasper Johns in creating your own version of his Target.” Signed by Johns in the plate.

Jasper Johns is a painter, sculptor and printmaker whose ongoing stylistic and technical experimentation continues to place him at the forefront of American art. Johns was part of a community of artists in New York in the 1950s who sought alternatives to the highly emotive nature of Abstract Expressionism. His renowned depictions of the American flag and other US-related topics, along with his paintings of numbers and targets laid the groundwork for important movements to follow including Pop art, Minimalism and Conceptual art.
