Description

Poster is designed by Wool.

American artist Christopher Wool has centered his 30+ year artistic practice around the challenging investigation into the question of how to make a painting at a time when new possibilities for the medium seem exhausted. His breakthrough work came in the mid-1980s with his decorative pattern paintings of severe black enamel on a white ground and his “word paintings” which focused on language as image, confronting the viewer with anxious, enigmatic imperatives. Since the early 2000s, Wool has worked almost exclusively with abstract forms. These meditative canvases once again take painting in a new expressive direction now centered around strategies of replication, erasure, and digital manipulation.
