Alan Charlton is a contemporary British artist who creates Minimalist paintings and installations. In the late 1960's, Charlton decided to only create gray paintings, citing the emotional qualities and mutability of this particular color. Geometric forms, such as a single triangle or rectangle broken into modular elements float on these monochromatic grounds. Of these conceptual works Charlton has said, “I want my paintings to be: abstract, direct, urban, basic, modest, pure, simple, silent, honest, absolute.”
