Mel Bochner is an American conceptual artist. He is recognized for his embrace of the banal as a means to perceptual discovery. Beginning in the late 1960s with his Measurement series, Bochner has challenged viewers to explore the seemingly objective systems that define our everyday life. In doing so, he has professed that, “art would go from being the record of someone else’s perception to becoming the recognition of your own.”
