Bert Stern The Marilyn Monroe Trip, Alternate Projects

Description

Noted photographer Bert Stern holds the distinction of being the last person to photograph Marilyn Monroe, in their famous 1962 photo shoot at Hollywood's Bel Air Hotel. The photo shoot was originally commissioned by Vogue magazine and took place over three daily sessions, just six weeks before Monroe died. Stern was unsatisfied with the "technical limitations of photography, [because those photos] never quite communicated the dazzling image of Marilyn that existed in my mind's eye at the time I photographed her." He then created the series of serigraphs for Avant Garde #2.
