Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was a visual artist, film director and producer who is considered one of the most important American artists of the second half of the 20th century. An initiator and leading exponent of the pop art movement, his reproductions of mass-produced art of banal consumer goods and endless variations of portraits of celebrities addressed the implied emptiness of American material culture with its consumerism as well as his own emotional noninvolvement with the making of his art.

In late 1969 Andy Warhol and British journalist John Wilcock founded Interview, one of the most influential cultural magazines of the 20th century which features (mostly unedited) interviews with celebrities, artists, musicians, and creative thinkers.
