Agnes Martin

Agnes Martin is recognized for her paintings of lines and grids superimposed upon grounds of muted color. From the beginning of her career in the 1960s up until her death in 2004, Martin painted infinitely subtle variations of this iconic subject. Aligned with the Abstract Expressionists, Martin’s paintings came to her as visions through which she sought to capture the abstract emotive essence of life itself.
